Consumerism addicts us.....

"Consumerism tempts us to settle for desires far below what we were created for" -Skye Jethani, Christianity Today, Spring 2009, p.56

  1. "It would seem that Our Lord finds our desire, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased."

  2. Interesting Jim, the exact C.S.Lewis quote is also in the same article! The 'trials of ordinary-existence' are the divine curricula for spiritual maturity. These are the laser beams God uses to put our old self with its misappropriate desires to death, and then resurrect the new self with new desires focused on a more lasting joy. -Skye Jethani, p.56 ibid.

  3. I'll think about this quote after I get back from the store!

  4. Often items are necessary but used only once a week or less. Why should everybody in a neighborhood or community own the same things that they rarely use? Why not share ownership of these things with with friends and neighbors? We save lots of money, and reduce our clutter and waste this way.
